61 West Labs designs, builds, and operates every product it ships — the interface, the infrastructure, and everything in between — without routing work through an agency or a platform we don’t control.
The short version
We started 61 West Labs by building the software we wished already existed — a payroll platform that actually understood Eastern Caribbean tax rules, a dispatch system for a ready-mix supplier tired of paper tickets — and decided to run those products properly instead of leaving them as side projects.
That’s still how the studio works. Design, engineering, and the infrastructure a product runs on all happen under one roof, so there’s no account manager standing between you and the studio actually building your software.
It’s also why the studio only takes on what it can look after properly — a small, deliberate list of products and client projects, each one getting real attention, rather than a long list getting none.

How it works
The practice, not just the pitch.
Design and build, end to end
Every product on this site — the interface, the database schema, the API, the infrastructure it runs on — is designed and built in-house. Nothing gets handed off to an outside team that has to be briefed and chased.
We run what we ship
The servers behind IslandsHR, MixDispatch, Kessl, and the rest are provisioned, hardened, and monitored in-house — not outsourced to a platform we don’t control. When something needs fixing at 11pm, it gets fixed.
A small, deliberate toolset
TypeScript across the stack, Postgres for anything that matters, Next.js and Astro for the front end, Docker and a couple of well-understood VPS boxes for everything else. Boring, reliable choices, used well, beat a trend chased for its own sake.
